Wacky Wednesday: Update: The Escape Artist Hatches a Plan....

Fast forward one year to 2014...Or better yet the escape artist's parents have hatched a mastermind of a plan!!!! As I said in a previous post, my tenacious now three year old doesn't like to stay in her bed at night. She wakes her brother up and they throw massive parties at 3 am, i.e. screaming, jumping on the beds, all the toys thrown on the floor type of parties. So a year ago, The Mav and I decided to make a trip to the local Toys R Us to see what master plan of our own we could come up with to keep Baby in her bed. This was it. Literally the last resort......

June 2013

I really don't enjoy waking up at 5am, having to field calls from our alarm system provider (its bad enough to get these calls when we are out of town because a cat set the alarm off) while chasing my toddler in the front yard, so we installed this little doohickey on the front door. Since lil' Ms. Escape Artist can take those useless doorknob covers off (we've tried three different ones), unlock doors and deadbolts, this outta fix her.....

The next issue was the parties at 3am. Since I am not one for locking her bedroom door (the Mavster voiced that he has no problem with this if it means he gets a few more moments of sleep, ugh men), this leaves locks for the front and back doors.

The door lock in the pictures works similar to those old chain locks except we didn't have to put a screw in the door PLUS she can't open the door a few inches and let the cat out or get herself stuck in the door attempting to escape!

I know what you are thinking. Putting off the inevitable are we? Why not just change to a toddler bed? My thought is, sooner or later I will have to face the inevitable but for right now I am happy living in my own world of her still being a baby. At least if she is contained in the house we don't have to worry so much. She is stealthy, too, she manages to get out of bed and to our room without me hearing on the baby monitor. What to do? That is still up in the air.....

August 2014

Update: The little escape artist baby in the crib is now a toddler in her own big girl bed who is still our little Houdini. We eventually found a lock for her bedroom door because she was still having parties at 3 am in her brothers room, who is now almost 8 and in 2nd grade....meaning he needs his rest to do his best at school. Updating this post now seems kind of silly but I had to let you know she is still escaping her room in the middle of the night, not nearly as often as last year but still she likes to party.
